banksy
Banksy is an anonymous British street artist whose politically charged works have made him one of the most recognizable figures in contemporary art. Emerging from the graffiti scene in the 1990s, Banksy developed a distinctive stencil technique that allows him to produce detailed images quickly in public spaces.
His works often combine humor and satire with sharp social commentary on topics such as war, consumerism, surveillance, and inequality. Famous images include Girl with Balloon, Flower Thrower, and There Is Always Hope.
Banksy’s art frequently appears unexpectedly on walls, bridges, and buildings around the world, blurring the boundaries between street art and the traditional art market. In 2018, one of his paintings famously partially shredded itself immediately after being auctioned, transforming the event into a performance about art and commodification.
Despite his anonymity, Banksy has become a major cultural figure whose work challenges authority, institutions, and the commercialization of art.
