Claude monet

Claude Monet (1840–1926) was a French painter and a founding figure of Impressionism, a movement that sought to capture the fleeting effects of light and atmosphere. Rather than focusing on precise detail, Monet painted quick impressions of landscapes, gardens, and water scenes.

His painting Impression, Sunrise gave the Impressionist movement its name. Monet often worked outdoors and painted the same subject repeatedly under changing conditions of light and weather.

Later in life he created the monumental Water Lilies series at his garden in Giverny, producing immersive canvases that approached abstraction. These works emphasized color, reflection, and surface rather than traditional perspective.

Monet’s exploration of perception and light had a profound impact on modern painting and continues to influence artists today.
