Niki de saint phalle
Niki de Saint Phalle (1930–2002) was a French-American artist known for vibrant sculptures, performances, and public artworks that often addressed themes of feminism, freedom, and social critique.
She first gained attention in the early 1960s with her Shooting Paintings, performances in which she fired a rifle at plaster surfaces filled with paint, causing colors to burst across the canvas. These works challenged traditional ideas of authorship and artistic control.
Saint Phalle later became famous for her Nanas, large, colorful sculptures of joyful, curving female figures, that celebrate femininity and empowerment. These works often appear in public spaces around the world.
Her most ambitious project was the Tarot Garden in Tuscany, an immersive sculpture park inspired by tarot symbolism.
Through her bold use of color, scale, and playful imagery, Saint Phalle created art that is both visually exuberant and socially engaged.
